Alan Paine was established in the historic market town of Godalming, Surrey, England in 1907. The wool and knitting industries were important sources of income in the area for many centuries. Evidence of this survives in the town's emblem, a woollen sack, which is still in official use and has been included in the Alan Paine coat of arms over the years.
